NORHED II – Climate Smart Agriculture in Sub Saharan Africa
CSFS project location: Mambwe and Chipata, Zambia
Number of farmers involved: 500
The NORHED II research collaboration is a project that involves six universities and two NGOs working together to improve climate-smart agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa. The project implementation period is from 2022 to 2025.
The universities include:
- University of Zambia, Zambia
- Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway
- Makerere University, Uganda
- Gulu University , Uganda
- Hawassa University, Ethiopia
- University of Juba, South Sudan
The project aims to generate and share new knowledge and build capacity for food security and on-farm profitability using climate-smart technologies.
Climate Smart Farming Solutions (CSFS) is responsible for implementing the activities in Zambia. This includes identifying eligible farmers for on-farm trials, establishing, managing, and monitoring trials, conducting farmer trainings, assisting with data collection and supervision, and organizing field days.
As part of our commitment to knowledge sharing, we will conduct farmer trainings in conservation farming, pigeon pea-maize rotation, and biochar production. A total of 500 smallholders are expected to be trained. We will also organize three field days and contribute to the production of training materials for university students.
The project is supported by the Norwegian Programme for Capacity Development in Higher Education and Research for Development (NORHED II).
Meet some of the farmers from Chipata and Mambwe who participate in the NORHED II project by implementing climate-smart farming practices at their farms.
